The post-Christmas blues

As I’m such a HUGE fan of Christmas – well, Christmas decorations, lights and baubles really – I almost wept taking down the tree and my vast (and ever-increasing) collection of light-up garlands. This year, for the first time, it coincided with both the children going back to full-time school. So, an empty house all day (well, 9.00 until 3.30 – let’s not over-dramatize) AND no pretty lights to distract me.

…thank goodness I have my new baby, this blog, to keep me busy and while away the hours!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I play the part of Christmas Fairy in our household, to my husband’s Christmas Grinch. I am always desperately keen to get the tree up; whilst The Christmas Grinch always thinks it’s too early, no matter when the tree goes up.

Actually, this year was a great year for me as we hosted Year 2 Christmas Parents’ Drinks towards the end of November, so I used this as an excuse to get treed-up and festooned with lights around the 26th of November. Christmas Fairy 1 – Christmas Grinch 0. Hurrah!

Not content with getting the decorations up early, I always buy decorations for the following Christmas in the sales too, so our new light-up reindeer garlands, snowflake window stickers, oversized star baubles and cute little tree robins arrived before 2017 was out. Christmas Fairy 2 – Christmas Grinch 0. Double hurrah!

And, ssshhh, don’t tell the Grinch, but I have re-purposed my favourite set of Cox and Cox lights and popped them into a glass vase on the bookshelf. Each time my eye catches it, my heart has a little flutter of excitement. Christmas Fairy 3 – Christmas Grinch 0. Triple hurrah!

….keeping the Spirit of Christmas alive!
