Let me start by saying that I have paid for these Daisy Roots Wimbledon sandals. So my review is going to be fully honest, what I really think and will pull no punches. If these rose gold bad boys rip my feet to shreds, I’ll tell you right here.

The Summer Sandal Quest

As with most mums, ladies, girls, I am on a blinking mission every year to find an easy-to-wear Summer Sandal that works.

It’s all too easy to find a pretty sandal. A Glam Sandal. Something that sings out to you from its shelf and promises a summer of effortless glamour and long summery evenings full of laughter. Perhaps even of laughter and chilled champagne.

…so you part with the cash.

..and then the agony begins.

Toenails painted? Beach ready? Dreaming of glamour, sunny evenings and champagne?

Yeah, you will be until you’re half way down the road on the school run, your little toe is already hurting and you have a blister starting on your heel. That winning combination will change your dreams fairly quickly.

And your new glam summer sandals won’t look quite so glam with a bit of blood on them and half a plaster sticking out. And your hobbling ain’t gonna help either.

So why is it so blasted hard to find a lady’s Summer Sandal?

Who Makes the Wimbledon?

Daisy Roots, by UK-based Marrum, started life as beautifully luxurious and comfortable handmade slippers for babies.

And, perhaps sensing the envy of these babies’ mums, they decided to turn their hand to beautifully crafted ladies shoes. And boy am I glad they have!

(For more information on Daisy Roots and Marrum, take a look here. I’m too busy to tell you more; I have some summer sandals to try out!)

Daisy Roots Wimbledon – The Look

I ordered these online and was really anxious about their arrival. Would they look as good in real life as they did on screen?

Would the rose gold look stylish and classy? Or a bit Gypsy’s Wedding?

The box arrived; it was the Moment of Truth.

……………..and they looked……

……………………….

………………………

…………..flipping amazing!

The colour is fantastic; a perfect dusky rose pink with a shimmering of gold. You can imagine a slim-ankled Wood Nymph would wear these whilst sipping pink champagne from a bluebell. All the while tossing back her mane of golden hair and delighting those around her with her beautiful tinkling laugh.

And the style?

The bar across the front is wide enough to show off your toes, but not give too much toe action. Not so much that you’ll be tormented by unattractive images of ex-Royals having their toes sucked by Texan financial advisers.

And the soft and supple leather around the ankle gives it a little bit of bohemian gladiator look. But not so Gladiator that you look like a body double for Russell Crowe.

And there’s a hint, just the merest hint, of light bondage from the ankle ties.

…… and they actually look, well, they look like they might be C – C – C – C (……ssssh, remember, no C-word)

Daisy Roots Wimbledon – The Fit

So how do these bad boys go on?

The base of the shoe is padded suede and is so deliciously soft that I want to stroke it. Like a little pet.

And it’s moulded and shaped in such a way that it gently cradles my foot. Just like I imagine a bespoke shoe would. (Not that I’ll ever know as I’ll surely die without ever having a shoe made especially for my little trotters)

The leather around the ankle is supportive yet soft and supple. I’m afraid to jinx it all, but it just doesn’t feel like it will rub the skin. It kind of feels there but not really there, if you know what I mean.

And the pretty cord tie can be used to easily make the fit around the ankle just perfect for you. Whether you are a slim-ankled Wood Nymph or boast a more robust ankle. They’d probably even give Russell Crowe a perfect fit.

So, they look great. They feel great. Now let’s put them through their paces.

Daisy Roots Wimbledon – In Motion

To make this a fair and honest review, I wanted to give these chaps a proper real-life run for their money. To really put them through their paces.

So, with no ‘breaking in’ and no back-up plasters, I took them straight out for the school run. We were, not unusually, running a few minutes behind time, so this involved an 8 minute speed-walk, and occasional half-trot, to school. And back again.

No pain.

They then went out for coffee. And received several admiring glances. And, did I imagine it, or was I just wolf-whistled?

Or rather, were my Daisy Roots Rose Gold Wimbledons just wolf-whistled? Perhaps it’s the hint of light bondage that does it.

And then, as the School Summer Fair is nearing, it’s 2 hours of trotting door-to-door begging local shops, bars and restaurants for prizes.

Still no pain.

Daisy Roots Wimbledon – The Verdict

You’ve probably guessed it by now.

Yep, I flipping love these summer sandals. Seriously, love love love ’em.

They’re right up there in my Top 5 Things. Right up there with my two beautiful little kids and my Handsome Husband.

I have stroked them, sniffed them and adored them. I might even lick them. (The sandals. Not the kids and the husband. Or, if I have, I’m not telling. It’s not that kind of blog.)

(A note on sizing: I’m between a 36 and a 37. The Marrum rep suggested I size down for their sandals and he was right. The 36 was a perfect fit. I suspect the 37 might have been like clown shoes.)
